Call for Proposals for 2026 Season

"I have had a most rare vison."
Shakespeare on the Sound is calling for proposals for potential upcoming productions of Much Ado About Nothing or The Taming of the Shrew.

Proposal Criteria

-
A proposal for one of the plays should be pitched in consideration that the play will be presented outdoors at Pinkney Park in Rowayton, Connecticut.
-
The play will begin rehearsals on May 19, 2026, for three weeks in NYC and then run for three weeks closing June 28, 2026, in CT.
-
The production run time should be less than two hours and fifteen minutes with an intermission.

Successful proposals will incorporate and articulate the following:

-
Advocate why you believe there is a need for this play to be produced now.
-
How the concept of the production proposal demonstrates a clear understanding of the play's text and tells the story effectively.
-
Communicate effectively what it is about this production concept that distinguishes it.
-
How the actionable themes of the play are inherent in this concept and are clearly articulated in terms of your interpretation. This includes a well-thought world in terms of movement, choreography, and design elements. Note, inspirational Images/mood boards may be (but are not required) to be attached as supportive amendments to illustrate and support the proposal.
-
How this production would appeal to audiences of Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Please send a cover letter, director resume, and proposal as one pdf file to Aaron Simms, Managing and Producing Director, at contactus@shakespeareonthesound.org with the subject line: “2026 Play Proposal”

Proposals will be accepted through July 1, 2025. Selected candidates will be asked to interview to present their concept in person in Rowayton, CT.
